For Keeps Books operates as both a bookstore and reading room on Auburn Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia. We exist as a bookstore in the traditional sense, selling rare and collectible books written for and about black folks, but we also house a small library in the middle of the space that is forever based in the store and invites our visitors to sit and read. We specialize in material printed before the year 2000, including but not limited to first editions and first printings, flyers, periodicals, museum catalogs, and other ephemeral works. The founder and curator of For Keeps Books, Rosa Duffy, has an active art practice and sees For Keeps Books as an extension of this practice in the form of a permanent installation. We have also been described in publications such as Burnaway, Atlas Obscura, and The New York Times as a museum or gallery exhibiting rare works, some of which can only be found in the Library of Congress. We take pride in providing written works and ephemera to the general public that can sometimes only be found in traditional library and academic spaces.

We have partnered with GGLA to bring you a small curated collection of what we regularly provide at our home base in Atlanta. Here, we have highlighted some of our favorite pieces on the walls of the space, including a collection of Freedomways that range in publication date from 1973-1987, and found photos that we reclaim from online sellers with the purpose of inspiring artists that frequent the space or identifying the folks that are pictured in them.
